The present system of teacher education needs of multidimensional approaches so as to meet the challenges and opportunities of the third millennium. Teacher educators must be trained, to an array of future possibilities to mode of instruction, to approach innovative methodology, etc. Thereby the present teacher centered education and teacher educator centered education should be revamped to make education learner centered and teacher trainee centered through psychological approaches. We hope that this conference will become a turning point in the development of a new approach to teacher education, which will carry in it the very best of what modern teacher education and psychological approaches have to offer. This conference is not for just paper presenting and discussing the issues, which are already been discussed and unsettled or ongoing. We try to explore innovative ideas and creative psychological approaches to teacher education. The conference will make you to think and work in a purposeful and meaningful direction.
To achieve the objectives described above, there will be plenary, and concurrent sessions. Each of these sessions will be devoted to one of the main objectives. The plenary sessions will have invited speakers only.
Participants are requested to submit papers on any of the listed topics. To ensure a consistent high quality of all the presentations, participants will be requested to submit the full text well in advance and not later than 15th April 2003. Abstract and paper should be sent by email or hard copy with floppy disk in MS-Word format only. The selected papers will be notified on 25th April 2003. At the same time their abstracts will be made available to website www.indianpsychology.org so as to enable all the participants of the conference to inform themselves beforehand about the issues of their interest. No TA/DA will be paid to the participants
Registration of acknowledged participants is on Saturday, 10 May 2003, between 9.30 and 10.30 am. It will be at the conference venue itself. Please note that there will be no new registrations on the spot.
Pondicherry is situated on the Coromandal Coast about 160 kms from Chennai. Every half an hour there are buses from Chennai to Pondicherry; the trip takes 3-4 hours. The venue for the conference is the Immaculate College of Education for Women, Tagore Nagar, Pondicherry - 605 008. (Phone : 0413-2253086)
Boarding and Lodging for delegates will be arranged at the College Hostel. The rooms will have double occupancy. You can also make your own arrangement in one of the many hotels in Pondicherry, on the registration form whether you want to make use of the college hostel or not.
In the evening of the second day we intend to organise a session in which young scholars can meet with reputed specialists in the field of teacher education. The session will be conducted jointly by Prof. B. Mukhopadhyay and Prof. R. Karpagakumaravel.
The evening of the second day of this conference will be devoted to a reporting session in which the important ideas that transpired during the conference will be highlighted. It should bring the depth and relevance of psychological approaches into focus and find ways to make it an essential part of teaching and research in Indian Universities / Colleges.
