The Pondicheny Psychology Association (Regd) is a non governmental voluntary organization formed by the psychologists of Pondicheny and other places. It has planned to work toward the advancement of psychology as a science, a profession, and a means of promoting human welfare. Membership of Pondicherry Psychology Association includes Psychologists, Counsellors Researchers, Educationists, Clinicians, Teachers and Psychology students. It is governed by the elected members of the governing council.

The Pondicherry Psychology Association was inaugurated on 1st January 2000 at Pondicheny. The second national level annual conference on the theme "Educational psychology for the third millennium" was organised during 27-28 January 2001 at Pope John Paul II College of Education, Pondicherry.

In order to recognize the services of the psychologists every year the Pondicheny Psychology Association conferring Best Psychologist Award for Professionals and Educationists. During the year 2001 Life Time Achievement award has been conferred to Prof. V.T.Patil, Vice Chancellor, Pondicheny University Best Educationist award to Rev. Fr. A.J. Lawrence, Principal, Pope John Paul II College of Education and Best Psychologist award 2000 to Prof. B. Viswanathan former Dean, Faculty of Education and Prof and Head, Dept.of psychology, Annamalai University and Best Psychologist award 2001 to Prof. T.V.A. Raghavan, Former Professor and Head, Dept. of Psychology of Annamalai University.

In the year 2002 the governing council of the Pondicherry Psychology Association proudly announced the following professionals for Best Psychologist Award.


  • Prof. G.P.Thakur, Prof. of Psychology, and President, IAAP, Varanasi.
  • Dr. K. Rangasamy, Clinical Psychologist, Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Porur, Chennai.
  • Dr. S. Balakrishnan, Clinical Psychologist, .Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Porur, Chennai.
  • Dr. K. Narayanan, Former Professor of Psychology, Tagore Arts College, Pondicherry.

People are wondering how the psychologists work out a possible solution to eliminate terrorism in the world. Terrorism and peace are the polar opposites and the role of psychologists in the crucial in humanistic activities of the terrorists may be studied in order to take possible steps to make them normal human beings. There is a belief in the society that unemployed youths and frustrated young minds are the root cause of terrorism. If we look into this direction, we can come out with spectacular results. In order to discuss the various dimensions of the terrorism and peace in the world. In order to explore these issues the third conference on the theme applied psychology for the world peace and prosperity was organised. The deliberations of the conference were created positive impact and certainly it would lead the nation in the path of peace.

In total 127 abstracts / papers have been presented in the conference and the organizing committee has approved the papers for presentation in various sittings. Accordingly, papers have been presented in ten concurrent sessions. Mostly all the papers were empirical in nature and confined to limited scope and objectives.

The Pondicherry Psychology Association is publishing a quarterly newsletter 'Indian Psychologist' as a private communication to the members.

Best Paper Award

Prof. B. Viswanathan, Dean (Retd.) Faculty of Education and Prof. and Head, Dept. of Psychology, Annamalai University has instituted an award carrying a certificate and a cash of Rs. 1,000/- for the best paper of the year.
